A wood BBQ pellet is a small, 1 inch long, 1/4 inch diameter piece of hardwood. Because of their small size, wood pellets burn cleanly and quickly to a fine ash. Wood pellets burn at about 8,500 BTUs per pound. Wood pellets come in a wide variety of “flavors” ranging from blend, hickory and oak to cherry, apple or maple and mesquite. The pellets in a normal pellet grill are fed from a storage hopper to a burning box at a controlled rate. This rate is adjustable based on whether you want a high temperature for grilling or a low temperature for smoking.
Where does the typical barbecue taste come from? Many barbecue fans prefer charcoal to gas grills due to the results in taste. Charcoal consists of pure tasteless carbon to a large proportion.
When carbon is burnt, water and carbon dioxide are produced. None of them provide the grill stuff with taste. So this must come from something else. Finally, it is the evaporating and burning grill stuff remains, such as meat juice or grease – very problematic health wise. Experts prefer real wood for the ultimate barbecue taste. When barbecuing with wood, the taste comes from the fuel. Wood is thus the only source which gives the grill stuff its taste. This also happens when curing meat, for example.
Barbecuing over real wood is very laborious. First you have to let some pieces of wood burn down so as to grill over the blaze. Hickory or oak are very suitable, but not just any type of wood.
It is much easier with a wood pellet grill It burns high quality hard wood (e. g. Hickory and oak) in the form of environmentally safe pellets. The grills are clean and comfortable. The addition of expensive chipped wood for the flavor is in the past. Simply set and grill. Experience the many flavors of various real wood smoked flavors.

Used them for the first time at a
competition this weekend, and I love
them. Ran my FEC100 at 232 for 18
hours at low then high temps and
only burned maybe 18lbs. Normally I
would be at over 20lbs with other
